The Sail Knife Project
In 2021, some sailors sat down in a relaxed meeting after a race. They agreed on the need to have a reliable system: a small portable device providing important sail information for safety, logging, optimizing routes or races, or including abandoning ship.
Sail Knife concept is born
Designed between Catalonia and Finland, with electronics made in Germany, it is now a real device.
Almost 3 years and five prototypes later, and after intense sail tests, we are glad to present this to the sailing community.
Sail Knife is not a commercial product yet but a project, and you can contribute to it!
The project is currently entering its production phase. A limited number of units are now available by request.

Our design process
Our first idea was to ask sailors about what is essential and what is not, on route or regatta, and simplify how it is accessed and displayed.

Welcome aboard Sail Knife One
Four basic icons enable fast access to the baro, GPS, sail and tool functions
The system includes:
A precision barometer, and thermometer, with 24h graph, and 24h/12h/6h/3h/1h evolution info, including a baro drop alarm, with 24h log included.
A precision grade GPS, allowing info of coords., COG, speed, Hor. precision, navigation flags & anchor control.
A Magnetic compass.
A dual UTC date/time real time clock, internal & GPS.
A pitch/roll indicators.
A speed evolution graph.
A G-force acceleration sensor, for starboard, bow, and Z axes; configurable in +/- 2G or m/s, with a graph.
A tack speed indicator in deg/s (Ultratrack Screen).
A vector force graph, in the bow-starboard-port axes (Ultratrack Screen).
A micro SD card for logging, with 1 minute (Sail mode) or 1 second (Regatta mode) step. All data is exportable to csv and Google Earth kml.
A Wi-Fi access point, that enables to view the basic sail info in a cell phone or tablet.
A USB-C port for battery charge and communication with external nav. apps, like OpenCPN.
System firmware can be also updated using the USB-C port .
